In its quest to attract more participants in a display of skills and talents, Goldenstate College successfully held its 4th Tuna Skills Olympics at KCC Mall of Gensan Convention and Events Center last September 3, 2009.
Proudly sponsored by Philippine Foremost Milling Corporation, Tuna LGUs of Geneal Santos, SunCellular, and ABS-CBN Gensan, this grandiose event which had its inception in 2005 was staged in line with the Tuna Festival celebration of this City. Professional, college, and high school categories were lined to vie for the prizes in the events such as Angel Hair Pasta, Tuna Sashimi Platter, Bartending, Table Setting, Table Skirting, Tuna Pandesal, among others.
“This is not only a competition for prizes but more of the display of skills among the competitors…” were the words of Warren A. Manilay, MNSA, CEO of Goldenstate College during his Opening Remarks. The whole-day affair crowded with different spectators was graced by no less than the Hon. Flor Congson, Vice Mayor of Gensan and other guests during the opening ceremony which commenced with the ceremonial cutting of ribbon. Ferdie Acantara, MAed hosted the opening salvo with a big bang as the participants were welcomed.
Judges who were hailed from the major sponsor Philippine Foremost Milling Corporation as well as gastronomical and fashion lords from Manila in the likes of Chef Ed Tawagon, Mr. Rudy Cabardo, Mr. Mitchel Borja, Mr. Ed Bailon, Mr. Willy Bejar, and Mr. Milton Nunga were introduced and presented on stage for recognition.
Some of the events were held simultaneously as the mall goers and students-spectators alike filled their eyes with satisfaction. More so, it was highlighted with a bartending exhibition in the late afternoon from the schools very own students-performers prior to the last event which is bartending.
Indeed, this year’s successful skill Olympics is another indication of the community’s love for food, fashion, and learning. The school is hoping to pursue its Hotel and Restaurant Management’s supremacy over the next years.
